RSS stands for
Really Simple Syndication. RSS files can be read by a program
called an RSS Feed Aggregator. These aggregator programs can read/open
RSS files just as Microsoft Word can read/open .DOC or .DOCX files
or Microsoft PowerPoint can read/open .PPT or PPTX files. There are
a large number of RSS Feed Aggregator programs out there.
A recording
of a 30 Minute Session about using Feeds is available at eXtension's
wiki, http://about.extension.org/wiki/.
Scroll down to the Professional Development section and click on
"Recordings of eXtension Professional Development Sessions."
OR go to http://tinyurl.com/2c3lzk,
then look under "Social Networking" for "Using Feeds"
to find "Feeding Frenzy." Watch the recording.
But, two RSS Feed
Aggregator programs that Enterprise Network (EN) computers have by
default are Internet Explorer 7 and Outlook 2007. This article will
focus on feeds in Outlook 2007. When you setup RSS Feeds in Outlook
2007, updated article headlines or the full article are downloaded
for you automatically. New stories will appear and display as unread
items under the RSS Feeds folder.
Assuming that
your EN machine has been updated to Outlook 2007, all the setup details
for RSS Feeds can be found here: How
To Setup RSS Feeds in Outlook 2007. The How To even gives you
the eNews RSS Feed address as a sample.
To learn even
more about RSS Feeds in Outlook, click the Outlook Help button. Search
for Introduction to RSS. Or, click this link for
a Microsoft
RSS Training course.
